I bought this old wooden box, only to find some interesting details written in pencil on the underside of the tool tray.
It seems that it belonged to a shipwright, Alfred Cameron, who sailed aboard HMS Diligence at Scapa Flow in 1918.
My only contribution was to invert the lid, in order to hide some horrible screw holes which had been made in it, and then spray the whole thing matt black. It acts as kindling box for the wood stove which inhabits our front room.
I hope Alfred would have approved.
