Flower, 1972

This was drawn and painted when I was a bored 12-year old. Something had clicked in my head and I had begun to think about the difference between drawing symbols or icons and drawing what's actually there.

It may be no coincidence that I had just started losing the ability to absorb lesson material without effort. It felt as though that ability was replaced by an increased capacity for reasoning... maybe it wasn't that good a trade.
