Although the image looks uninspired, I was excited by these plates, when fitting roof bars to our Transit van.
The roof skin is less than 1mm in thickness and it stands above the tubular framework of the van’s roof by about 0.5cm in six locations.
If you just bolt the roof through the roofbar fixtures down onto the frame, the roof skin distorts horribly.
I was able to avoid that by folding and tapping these plates into the 0.5cm gaps, so that they acted as spacers, with the slot in each plate accommodating each bolt.
